Paint making

Following on from our work on Rembrandt, we made our own tempera paint today using pigment, egg yolk and a tiny bit of liquid soap. We learnt to be careful in 'drying' the egg yolk and pricking the sack. The children used oil pastels for the base, then painted over with the tempera, so that they could 'etch' or scratch out a design for Father's Day cards. This was a more sophisticated and more satisfying version of the initial crayon scratching work we did a few weeks back.
